Janwaar Castle | A Skatepark That Became a Movement
In 2015, Ulrike founded Janwaar Castle, a skatepark in rural Madhya Pradesh, with two unconventional rules:
No school. No skateboarding. Girls first.
What began as a skatepark evolved into a decade-long experiment in trust, participation, learning and community ownership.
The story later reached a global audience through Netflix’s Skater Girl. But its deeper legacy became The Janwaar Way—a framework of nine principles and four movements for change designed to outlast its founders.
Today, Ulrike carries these lessons into her work with education, NGOs and culture, exploring complexity, cross-cultural collaboration, social innovation and grassroots change.
