Design learning environments that elevate student engagement and outcomes
If you completed the 2025 MicroCert, or the 2026 Designing Environments for Modern Learning MicroCert (February – April 2026), this MicroCert is the natural next step in the series. However, you do not need to have completed any previous MicroCerts to enrol, There are no prerequisites for joining this course.
This Micro-credential focuses on effective teaching practice within flexible, technology-enhanced, and pedagogically innovative learning environments. Participants explore how spatial and pedagogical innovation intersect and examine the challenges and opportunities that arise when teaching in diverse, contemporary settings.
Through case studies, reflective activities, and applied learning tasks, participants will develop new strategies and an actionable plan to implement responsive, student-centred approaches in their own practice. The course emphasises how educators can make deliberate use of spatial and technological affordances to strengthen learner engagement and improve outcomes.
Led by experts from the Learning Environments Applied Research Network (LEaRN) and developed in consultation with leading practitioners in education, architecture, and design, this MicroCert deepens your understanding of effective teaching in innovative learning environments and builds your capability to lead broader change in schools.
Study Commitment: 42 hours (6hrs guided learning; 26hrs self-guided study; 10 hours assessment)

Accessing the LMS
Learners will be required to login and access the LMS prior to the commencement of teaching. Learners will receive an email once access has been granted. Please check spam folders in case this email is not received. Once registered, learners will complete all exercies, documented outputs from activities, and assessments via the LMS.

Generally, three (3) weeks after the last assessment due date (Friday 26 June 2026), depending on extensions.

Understand the global evolution of learning environments, including how governments, school leaders, and practitioners define and shape these spaces.
Opportunities and challenges in innovative environments
Explore both physical and experiential aspects of your own school setting. Identify barriers, opportunities, and strategies for responsive, student-centred teaching.
Expanded teaching strategies and tools
Investigate how innovative learning environments can extend your teaching and pedagogical repertoire. Develop an action plan to trial and implement a spatial or technological strategy in your own practice.
Leading others in innovative environments
Acquire practical tools to support colleagues and build collective capability for effective teaching in innovative learning environments.
