Course Overview – Enrolment Closes Friday 6 February 2026
Design learning environments that elevate student engagement and outcomes
This Micro-credential explores how the design of learning environments shapes teaching, learning, and engagement. Participants will investigate how spatial design, furniture, and technology can influence educational experiences that support contemporary, student centred pedagogies.
Drawing on real case studies, current policy initiatives, and evidence informed design principles, participants will examine how physical and pedagogical environments can be better aligned. Across the course, you will develop a design concept for a learning space that supports learner needs and pedagogical goals within a variety of educational contexts.
Designed and taught by experts from the Faculty of Education (FoE) and the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning (FABP) at the University of Melbourne, this micro-credential deepens your understanding of innovative learning environments and provides practical strategies for leading change in schools.
Study Commitment: 42 hours (6hrs guided learning; 26hrs self-guided study; 10 hours assessment)
